Abstract

The study investigates the development and improvement of hybrid renewable energy systems for a residential residence in Babylon, Iraq, utilising the HOMER programme. The project aims to determine the most efficient and cost-effective energy system design for residential usage, in response to the growing global need for sustainable and renewable energy sources. The process entailed examining different permutations of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, wind turbines, and battery storage devices. According to the results, an off-grid photovoltaic (PV) and battery system is the most cost-effective option, with the lowest upfront investment and ongoing expenses. Nevertheless, the integration of wind energy, although enhancing the dependability and variety of the system's energy sources, results in higher upfront and ongoing costs. These findings offer vital information for politicians and engineers to implement renewable energy solutions that are customised to Iraq's specific meteorological and economic circumstances
